Concepts and Competencies
The learner will:
- Participate in visual arts activities
- Choose art center during free choice
- Use a variety of materials (e.g. chalk, paint, crayons, pencils, markers, wood, play dough)
- Draw to explore and extend themes in the classroom
- Create simple sculptures using clay and various tools to create texture
- Use paints to create new shades and colors
Supporting Practices
The adult will:
- Make a variety of art materials accessible to students throughout the day
- Rotate art materials to provide a variety of experiences
- Include art experiences in cross curricular activities
- Provide opportunities to use 3-dimensional materials (e.g. clay, play dough, wood)
- Allow for individual or group projects to extend over several days
- Display student’s art work
